Live, Love, and LAUGH!!

This event is coming up soon…. Don’t miss out!!

Because I Can...

LLS COmedyI have set up another fundraiser… I mean, how else am I going to fight cancer?  This one is with The Improv at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, FL.

For those of you in South Florida, this is not only national comedy club with only the best comedians, it is located at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino at Seminole Paradise.  So much to do in that location, the comedy event is just the beginning of the evening (or could be the best ending a fun filled day at the casino).

Our Comedian for the main event is Dean Napolitano.  He is a national star of the comedy stage and several shows like Heroes, The Shield, and Las Vegas among others.  You can read more about Dean and even watch a few of his posted videos on his website.

Mid Year Mileage Report

Those of you who follow my blog probably remember I set out on a challenge this year with a group of friends to record 2013 miles in 2013.  You might even remember me saying I might not make the total miles but I was going to take even half of 2013 miles for the year to mean success.

2013 Miles in 2013 (Or as close as I can get)

2013 Miles in 2013 (Or as close as I can get)

Well, since I am done for the month of June, I am done for mid-year.  So it is time to tally my miles half way through 2013.  I am just now starting my marathon training for the end of the year: as such, I am just starting to ramp up my miles again.  Between starting the training plan and dealing with the increases in heat and humidity, my mileage this last month has dropped off a bit.

As of today, June 30, 2013, I am at 684.2 miles (33.9% of 2013).  If I am able to manage 100 miles per month through out the remainder of the year (which with the races planned should be easily achieved) I will undoubtedly make 50% and then some.

So far, I am happy with the progress. Last year as I was heading into San Fran, I was not training nearly as much as I should have.  Sure, long runs on the weekends with the team was a given, but I was not training during the week like I should have been.

This year, with all I have been through and struggling to manage, I have been more dedicated to training.  I have set goals that I know I can achieve provided I continue to train.  I have set a goal to reach an average 10 min/mile pace by November’s Women’s Running Series Half Marathon in St Pete (I am aiming for 2:15 finish – 13 mins off my current PR).

I GOT THIS!!

Another Saturday, Another Long Run

Post 5.5 Miles in 100% humidity, UGH

Post 5.5 Miles in 100% humidity, UGH

Officially the Team Training started on June 15th for the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Fran (my next LLS race), but I have been slacking and not writing any updates. Fear not my followers and supporters…. I have been training, just not writing about it.

As a quick catch up, I am at about 20 miles a week. Some weeks are more, some are less: but I am still running (just slower in this dreaded heat). No injuries to speak of (knock on wood). The only issue I face is related to my asthma which has kicked up a notch in this humidity and my slight weight gain.

Yep, I have put a few pounds back on. Mainly due to stress snacking. Stress sucks!! After today’s run, with a new inhaler, I am back on track. My goal has not changed, other than extending the dates.

GOAL: lose 25lbs by my next race, September 15th, 2013
GOAL: gain the pace I lost with the weight gain by the next race.

Today was 5.6 mile long run. Other than running in a shoe I generally like for short runs, the training was not so bad. I am struggling in the heat and humidity of South Florida in the summertime: pace wise that is. As much as I hate the treadmill, I do at least one workout a week indoors to work on my pacing without the humidity factor. This is also my chance to get some hill work in with the incline on the treadmill.

On the fundraising front, I am almost 50% to my goal. I still have a few fundraisers going on. Specifically for those of you in South Florida, I have tickets for the Fort Lauderdale Improv at the Hard Rock Casino for sale. At just $15 per person, this is such a deal. The date is July 18th, so if you are in the area, contact me for tickets. It is a great cause and always a fun night at The Improv. Comedian for the main event is Dean Napolitano.

That is my update for now. More to come in July. Remember, you don’t have to go to one of my events to support my endeavors with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. You can click this link to my page to read about my event and make a tax deductible donation. No amount is too small, so give what you can. Every dollar helps LLS continue to fund research into a cure for blood cancers.
